The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 2 of the Probation Service Act 1993(1), and after the consultation required by that section, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Combined Probation Areas (West Midlands) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 1st April 1997.
2. That part of Schedule 2 to the Combined Probation Areas Order 1986(2) which relates to the West Midlands Probation Area shall be amended by-
(a)omitting the entries in respect of the petty sessions of Halesowen and Stourbridge; and
(b)inserting in alphabetical order in column 1 "Stourbridge and Halesowen", and corresponding to this in column 3 "2".
3. The two members of the West Midlands Probation Committee appointed before 1st April 1997 by the justices of the petty session areas of Halesowen and Stourbridge shall continue in office as if they had been appointed by justices for the new petty sessions area of Stourbridge and Halesowen(3).

This Order amends the Combined Probation Areas Order 1986 (S.I. 1986/1713) to take account of the amalgamation of the petty sessions areas of Halesowen and Stourbridge into the petty sessions area of Stourbridge and Halesowen effected by the Petty Sessional Divisions (Dudley) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/2873) which comes into force on 1st April 1997.
