The Secretary of State in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 21 of the Party Wall etc. Act 1996(1) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 (Repeal of Local Enactments) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 1st July 1997.
2. The enactments specified in column 1 of the Schedule to this Order are hereby repealed to the extent mentioned in column 2.
3. Where any work has been commenced, notice given or other action taken in accordance with any enactment mentioned in the Schedule to this Order, that enactment shall continue to apply to that work, or the work to which the notice or other action relates, notwithstanding the repeal effected by Article 2 above.

This Order repeals certain local enactments specified in the Schedule to the Order, in particular Part VI of the London Building Acts (Amendment) Act 1939. These enactments are made unnecessary by the coming into force on 1st July 1997 of the Party Wall etc. Act 1996. Article 3 contains saving provisions in relation to any work commenced, notice given or other action taken before 1st July 1997 under the repealed enactments.
