The Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 (Commencement) (Section 65 and Schedules 1 and 2) Order 1997

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 65(4) of the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996(1), and by paragraph 39 of Schedule 1 to that Act and paragraph 7 of Schedule 2 to that Act, hereby makes the following Order.

Citation and commencement

1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 (Commencement) (Section 65 and Schedules 1 and 2) Order 1997.

(2) Section 65 of, and Schedules 1 and 2 to, the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 shall have effect in relation to any alleged offence in relation to which Part I of that Act applies.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order provides that section 65 of, and Schedules 1 and 2 to, the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1965 are to have effect in relation to any alleged offence in relation to which Part I of that Act applies, that is to say any alleged offence into which no criminal investigation has begun before the day appointed for the purposes of that part by the Secretary of State.
