The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 2 of the Probation Services Act 1993(1), and after the consultation required by that section, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Combined Probation Areas (Lancashire) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 1st January 1999.
2. That part of the Combined Probation Areas Order 1986(2) which relates to the Lancashire Area(3), shall be amended by-�
(a)substituting for the reference to Blackpool in column 1 a reference to Blackpool and Fylde;
(b)omitting the entry in respect of the petty sessions area of Fylde.

This Order amends the Combined Probation Areas Order 1986 (S.I. 1986/1713) to take account of the combination of the petty sessional divisions of Blackpool and Fylde affected by the Petty Sessional Divisions (Lancashire) Order 1998 (S.I. 1998/949) which comes into force on 1st January 1999. It also reduces the number of justices on the committee for the Lancashire Area from 24 to 22. The petty sessional divisions of Blackpool and Fylde were formerly represented by 2 justices each.
