The Secretary of State, in exercise of the power conferred on him by section 53 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988(1), and after consultation in accordance with section 88(2) of that Act with such representative organisations as he thinks fit, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Fixed Penalty Order 2000 and shall come into force on 1st November 2000.

(2) This Order applies in relation to a fixed penalty offence alleged to have been committed on or after 1st November 2000.

Fixed penalties

2. The fixed penalty for an offence shown in column (1) of the Schedule to this Order shall be the amount shown in relation to that offence in column (2) of the Schedule.

Revocations

3. The Fixed Penalty Order 1992(2) and the Fixed Penalty (Increase) (Scotland) Order 1992(3) are hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order prescribes fixed penalties for fixed penalty offences. The prescribed penalties replace those prescribed for England and Wales by the Fixed Penalty Order 1992 (S.I. 1992/346) and for Scotland by the Fixed Penalty (Increase) (Scotland) Order 1992 (S.I. 1992/435 (S. 50)).

Fixed penalties are increased from £40 to £60 for offences involving obligatory endorsement and for parking offences committed in Greater London on a red route, from £30 to £40 for other parking offences committed in Greater London and from £20 to £30 for other fixed penalty offences.
