The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 166(3) of and paragraph 3(a) of Schedule 8 to the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999(1), hereby makes the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Asylum Support (Amendment) Regulations 2000 and shall come into force on 4th December 2000.

In the Table in paragraph (2) of regulation 10 of the Asylum Support Regulations 2000(2) (kind and levels of support for essential living needs), in the second column, opposite the entry in the first column relating to a person aged under 16, for the amount "£26.60" there shall be substituted the amount "£30.95".

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend paragraph (2) of regulation 10 of the Asylum Support Regulations 2000 by increasing from £26.60 to £30.95 the total redemption value, for any week, of asylum support in the form of vouchers redeemable for goods, services and cash which may be expected, as a general rule, to be provided weekly under section 95 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 in respect of the essential living needs of a person aged under 16. This increase will take effect on 4th December 2000.
This amendment reflects an identical increase in the amount of certain income related social security benefits applicable in respect of a person of that age under the Social Security Amendment (Personal Allowances for Children) Regulations 2000.
