The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, with the consent of the Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 56(1) and (2) of the Finance Act 1973(1) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Measuring Instruments (EEC Requirements) (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 2000 and shall come into force on 1st April 2000.

2. In paragraph 1(a) respectively in Schedules 2, 3, 5 and 6 to the Measuring Instruments (EEC Requirements) (Fees) Regulations 1998(2) for the words "£65 per hour" there shall be substituted "£70 per hour" in all places where those words occur.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Measuring Instruments (EEC Requirements) (Fees) Regulations 1998 (S.I. 1998/1177) (the principal Regulations) to provide for an increase in the fees in respect of services provided by the Department of Trade and Industry in relation to the type approval and testing of measuring instruments. The hourly rate (as specified in paragraph 1(a) respectively in Schedules 2, 3, 5 and 6 to the principal Regulations) for these services is increased from £65 to £70 (an increase of £5) and is the first increase since 1st June 1998 (when the principal Regulations came into force).
