The General Dental Council has made the General Dental Council (Constitution of Committees) (Amendment) Rules 2010 which are set out in the Schedule to this Order, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 2(6) and 50C(5) of, and paragraph 8(1)(c) of Schedule 1 to, the Dentists Act 1984(1).
By virtue of sections 50C(2)(2) and (3) of that Act, such rules shall not come into force until approved by Order of the Privy Council.
1. This Order may be cited as the General Dental Council (Constitution of Committees) (Amendment) Rules Order of Council 2011 and comes into force on 31st January 2011.
2. Their Lordships, having taken the Rules contained in the Schedule into consideration, are pleased to and do approve them.

Article 2
The General Dental Council make the following Rules in exercise of their powers conferred by sections 2(6) and 50C(5) of, and paragraph 8(1)(c) of Schedule 1 to, the Dentists Act 1984(3).
1. These Rules may be cited as the General Dental Council (Constitution of Committees) (Amendment) Rules 2010 and shall come into force on 31st January 2011.
2. In the General Dental Council (Constitution of Committees) Rules 2009(4), in rule 4(1) (the Committees)-
(a)in subparagraph (b) (Interim Orders Committee), for "100" substitute "175";
(b)in subparagraph (c) (Professional Conduct Committee), for "100" substitute "175";
(c)in subparagraph (d) (Health Committee), for "50" substitute "175";
(d)in subparagraph (e) (Professional Performance Committee), for "100" substitute "175"; and
(e)in subparagraph (f) (Registration Appeals Committee), for "100" substitute "175".

This Order approves the General Dental Council (Constitution of Committees) (Amendment) Rules 2010, which are scheduled to the Order.
Rule 1 sets out citation and commencement.
Rule 2 sets out amendments to rule 4(1) of the General Dental Council (Constitution of Committees) Rules 2009, which were scheduled to SI 2009/1813. The amendments increase the maximum number of persons who may be appointed under rule 4(1) to the Interim Orders Committee, the Professional Conduct Committee, the Professional Performance Committee and the Registration Appeals Committee from 100 to 175 persons. The maximum number of persons who may be appointed to the Health Committee is increased from 50 to 175 persons.
1984 c. 24. In section 2, subsection (6) was inserted by SI 2001/3926 and amended by SI 2009/1182. Section 50C was inserted by SI 2005/2011. Paragraph 8(1)(c) of Schedule 1 to the Act was amended by SI 2001/3926 and 2005/2011.
In section 50C, subsection (2) was amended by SI 2009/1182.

The Rules were scheduled to SI 2009/1813, to which there are no relevant amendments.
