The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3(2) of the Riot (Damages) Act 1886(1), makes the following Regulations:
1.-(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Riot (Damages) (Amendment) Regulations 2011 and shall come into force on 12th August 2011.
(2) In these Regulations "the principal Regulations" means the Regulations dated 1st October 1921 made by the Secretary of State under section 3(2) of the Riot (Damages) Act 1886 as to claims for compensation(2).
2. For regulation 2 of the principal Regulations, substitute-
"2. All claims shall be so delivered within forty-two clear days after the day when such injury, stealing or destruction took place."
3. The amendment made by these Regulations has effect in relation to any claim which could be made at or after the time that these Regulations come into force.

These Regulations amend the 1921 Regulations prescribing the procedure for claiming compensation under the Riot (Damages) Act 1886.
In particular, they increase from fourteen days to forty-two days the period within which a claim can be made, and remove the provision for the period to be extended if special cause is shown.
