The Apprenticeship Sectors (Specification) Order 2011

The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 38(1) of the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009(1).

In accordance with section 38(2) of that Act, the Secretary of State is satisfied that the sectors specified in this order encompass the full range of skills, trades and occupations.

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Apprenticeship Sectors (Specification) Order 2011 and comes into force on 1st March 2011.

Specification of apprenticeship sectors

2. The sectors in the Schedule are specified for the purposes of Chapter 1 of Part 1 of the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009.

Automotive industry

Business and administration, customer service, enterprise and business support, human resources and recruitment, industrial relations, leadership and management, marketing and sales

Business and Information Technology

Central Government and Armed Forces

Chemical manufacturing, nuclear science, oil and gas extraction

Community learning and development, further education, higher education, teaching support, libraries, archives and information services, work-based learning and development

Construction

Electrical and electronic servicing, plumbing, heating and building services

Electricity, gas and water supply, and waste management

Engineering construction

Environmental and land-based

Financial services and accountancy

Fire and rescue services, policing and law enforcement, custodial care, courts service, prosecution service and forensic science

Food and drink manufacturing and processing

Freight logistics

Health care

Hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism

Media and manufacturing and design of clothing and textiles

Passenger transport

Printing, mineral extraction and processing, health and safety and process and manufacturing of furniture, glass, ceramics, coatings and paper

Property, housing, and facilities management and cleaning

Science, engineering and manufacturing technologies

Social care, and the care of children and young people

Sports coaching, active leisure, hairdressing and beauty

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order, made under section 38(1) of the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 ("the Act"), specifies the sectors for the purposes of Chapter 1 of Part 1 of the Act. The Order forms part of the implementation of the statutory apprenticeships programme in Part 1 of Chapter 1 of the Act.

A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no impact on the private or voluntary sectors is foreseen.
