The Closure of Prisons Order 2011

The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 37 of the Prison Act 1952(1).

1. This Order may be cited as the Closure of Prisons Order 2011 and will come into force on 30th April 2011.

2. The following prisons are closed on the coming into force of this Order-

(a)H.M. Prison Morton Hall, in Lincolnshire; and

(b)H.M. Prison Ashwell, in Rutland.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order provides for the closure of H.M. Prison Morton Hall and H.M. Prison Ashwell on 30th April 2011.

A full regulatory impact assessment has not been produced for this Instrument as no impact on the private or voluntary sectors is foreseen.
