EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order revokes three orders which provided for stages in the introduction of competition in the gas supply through pipes at rates not expected to exceed 2,500 therms a year (predominately to domestic premises).

The orders set in respect of certain areas in Great Britain a ‘relevant date', earlier than 1st January 1999, for a licensed gas supplier to be able to supply domestic premises in that area. 1st January 1999 was the date set by the Gas Act 1995 (c. 45) from which any licensed gas supplier could supply domestic premises anywhere in Great Britain subject only to any particular licence restrictions.

The orders were spent but remained in force.

An impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no impact is foreseen on the private, voluntary or public sectors.
