The Coroners and Justice Act 2009 (Commencement No. 11) Order 2013

The Lord Chancellor makes this Order in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 176(3) and 182(4) of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009(1).

Citation

1. This Order may be cited as the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 (Commencement No. 11) Order 2013.

Appointed day

2. The following provisions of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 shall come into force on 12th February 2013-

(a)section 178 (repeals), in so far as it relates to the provision specified in sub-�paragraph (b); and

(b)in Part 1 (coroners etc) of Schedule 23 (repeals), the entry relating to the Coroners Act 1988(2) in so far as it relates to section 5(2) of that Act.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force provisions of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 (c. 25). Article 2 commences the repeal of section 5(2) of the Coroners Act 1988 (c. 13). Section 5(2) of that Act permitted the coroner to hold an inquest only within that coroner's district. This repeal will remove the geographical restriction on where an inquest may take place.
