The Cattle Identification (Amendment) Regulations 2015

The Secretary of State is a Minister designated for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(1) in relation to the common agricultural policy of the European Union(2) and in relation to measures in the veterinary and phytosanitary fields for the protection of public health(3).

The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972.

Title, application and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Cattle Identification (Amendment) Regulations 2015; they apply in England and come into force on 6th April 2015.

Amendment of the Cattle Identification Regulations 2007

2.-(1) The Cattle Identification Regulations 2007(4) are amended as follows.

(2) In paragraph 1 of Schedule 5 (records), for sub-paragraph (3) substitute-

"(3) The register must contain-

(a)the information set out in Article 8 of Commission Regulation (EC) No 911/2004 implementing Regulation (EC) No 1760/2000 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards eartags, passports and holding registers(5) and,

(b)in the case of animals born on the holding only, the ear tag number of the dam (in the case of embryo transfer, the surrogate dam and, if known, genetic dam) or, in the case of a dam born before 1st April 1995 that does not have an ear tag, a record of the identification mark of the dam."

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Cattle Identification Regulations 2007 (S.I. 2007/529).

Regulation 2 removes the requirement for keepers to record in their register the unique identification code of the dam of any animal brought onto the holding.
