The European Union (Future Relationship) Act 2020 (Commencement No. 2) Regulations 2023

The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the power conferred by section 40(7) of the European Union (Future Relationship) Act 2020( 1).

Citation and extent

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the European Union (Future Relationship) Act 2020 (Commencement No. 2) Regulations 2023.

(2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Provision coming into force on 23rd May 2023

2.  Section 8 of the European Union (Future Relationship) Act 2020( 2) (disclosure of vehicle registration data) comes into force on 23rd May 2023.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations are the second commencement regulations made under the European Union (Future Relationship) Act 2020 (c. 29)(“ the Act”).

Regulation 2 brings section 8 of the Act into force on 23rd May 2023. This provision relates to the disclosure of vehicle registration data in accordance with Article 537 of, and Annex 39 to, the Trade and Cooperation Agreement( 3).

The Trade and Cooperation Agreement can be found athttps://www.gov.uk/government/publications/ukeu-and-eaec-trade-and-cooperation-agreement-ts-no82021. A hard copy can be obtained by writing to the Treaty Section of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, King Charles Street, London, SW1A 2AH.

A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private or voluntary sector or community bodies is foreseen.
