The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 4(1) of Regulation (EC) 2160/2003on the control of salmonella and other specified food-borne zoonotic agents( 1), makes the following Regulations.
In accordance with the requirements of Article 2A(2) of that Regulation, the Secretary of State has obtained the consent of the Scottish Ministers and the Welsh Ministers.
1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Validating Alternative Methods for Salmonella Typing (Amendment) Regulations 2023 and come into force on 4th August 2023.
(2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales, and Scotland.
2.—(1) Commission Regulation (EU) No 1190/2012concerning a Union target for the reduction ofSalmonellaEnteritidis andSalmonellaTyphimurium in flocks of turkeys( 2) is amended as follows.
(2) In the Annex, in point 3.4 (alternative methods), for the words from “ISO 16140-2” to the end substitute “EN ISO 16140-2 (for alternative detection methods) or EN ISO 16140-6 (for validation of the confirmation or typing procedure of the typing method)”.
3.—(1) Commission Regulation (EU) No 517/2011implementing Regulation (EC) No 2160/2003of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards a Union target for the reduction of the prevalence of certainSalmonellaserotypes in laying hens ofGallus gallus( 3) is amended as follows.
(2) In the Annex, in point 3.4 (alternative methods), for the words from “ISO 16140-2” to the end substitute “EN ISO 16140-2 (for alternative detection methods) or EN ISO 16140-6 (for validation of the confirmation or typing procedure of the typing method)”.
4.—(1) Commission Regulation (EU) No 200/2012concerning a Union target for the reduction ofSalmonella enteritidisandSalmonella typhimuriumin flocks of broilers( 4) is amended as follows.
(2) In the Annex, in point 3.4 (alternative methods), for the words from “ISO 16140-2” to the end substitute “EN ISO 16140-2 (for alternative detection methods) or EN ISO 16140-6 (for validation of the confirmation or typing procedure of the typing method)”.
5.—(1) Commission Regulation (EU) No 200/2010implementing Regulation (EC) No 2160/2003of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards a Union target for the reduction of the prevalence ofSalmonellaserotypes in adult breeding flocks ofGallus gallus( 5) is amended as follows.
(2) In the Annex, in point 3.4 (alternative methods), for the words from “ISO 16140-2” to the end substitute “EN ISO 16140-2 (for alternative detection methods) or EN ISO 16140-6 (for validation of the confirmation or typing procedure of the typing method)”.

These Regulations are made in exercise of powers conferred by Article 4(1) of Regulation (EC) 2160/2003on the control of salmonella and other specified food-borne zoonotic agents. They extend to England and Wales, and Scotland.
These Regulations amend the regulations concerning salmonella in poultry and poultry products to include a reference to a standard adopted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for validating alternative typing methods for salmonella.
A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private, voluntary or public sectors is foreseen.
