The Chief Coroner, His Honour Judge Thomas Teague KC, was a guest speaker at the Health and Care Connect Conference organised by specialist healthcare lawyers Browne Jacobson.

In a short address and a Q&A session, he covered a number of themes of interest to healthcare professionals, including: keeping the bereaved at the heart of the coronial process; the inquisitorial nature of a coroner’s investigation; addressing the inquest backlog in areas that are still recovering from the pandemic; consistency between coroner areas; and conducting remote hearings.

In an interview following the October session, HHJ Teague said: “I accepted the invitation to speak at Browne Jacobson's conference today because I thought it would give me an opportunity that I might not otherwise have had; first of all to listen to what legal and health service professionals might have to say on some of the topics that are important to the coroner service, and also because I felt that they might like to hear what I felt about some of those topics.”
