In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 66(8) and 138(7) and (8) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998[1] and now vested in the National Assembly for Wales[2], the National Assembly for Wales makes the following Regulations: Citation and commencement 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Exclusion from School) (Prescribed Periods) (Amendment) (Wales) Regulations 2000 and shall come into force on 1st January 2001. Amendment 2. In regulation 3(2)(c) of the Education (Exclusion from School) (Prescribed Periods) Regulations 1999[3] (performance of governing body's duties), in so far as it relates to Wales, for "30" there shall be substituted "50". Signed on behalf of the National Assembly for Wales under section 66(1) of the Government of Wales Act 1998[4]. John Marek The Deputy Presiding Officer of the National Assembly 9th November 2000 (This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations amend the Education (Exclusion from School) (Prescribed Periods) Regulations 1999 in relation to maintained schools in Wales. Regulation 2 provides that where a pupil at such a school would, as a result of an exclusion, be excluded for a fixed period of more than five but not more than 15 school days in total in any one term, a governing body must normally take each of the steps referred to in section 66(2) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 not later than 50 school days after receiving notification of the exclusion (rather than 30 school days as previously).
