The Fish Labelling (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2006

  Made 16 May 2006 
  Coming into force 24 May 2006 

The National Assembly for Wales makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 16(1)(e) and (f), 17(2), 26(3) and 48(1) of the Food Safety Act 1990[1] and now vested in it[2]. .

     In accordance with section 48(4A) of that Act, it has had regard to relevant advice given by the Food Standards Agency.

     As required by Article 9 of Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council[3] laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority and laying down procedures in matters of food safety, there has been open and transparent public consultation during the preparation and evaluation of these Regulations.

Title, commencement and application
     1. The title of these Regulations is the Fish Labelling (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2006, will come into force on 24 May 2006 and apply in relation to Wales.

2. The Fish Labelling (Wales) Regulations 2003[4] are amended as follows—

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


     1. These Regulations, which apply to Wales amend the Fish Labelling (Wales) Regulations 2003 ("the principal Regulations") which provide for the execution and enforcement of Title 1, Chapter 2 of Council Regulation (EC) 104/2000 on the common organisation of the markets in fishery and aquaculture products as applied by Commission Regulation (EC) 2065/2001 laying down detailed rules on the application of Council Regulation (EC) 104/2000 as regards informing consumers about fishery and aquaculture products.

     2. The Regulations—

     3. A regulatory appraisal has been prepared and placed in the Library of the National Assembly for Wales. Copies may be obtained from the Food Standards Agency, 11th Floor, Southgate House, Wood Street, Cardiff, CF10 1EW.
