(Increase of Judicial Remuneration) Order, 2001

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 46(9) (inserted by section 1(b) of the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 1968 (No. 21 of 1968) , as amended by sections 8 and 9 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial, Parliamentary and Judicial Offices (Amendment) Act, 1983 (No. 32 of 1983) ) of the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) Act, 1961 (No. 39 of 1961) , hereby order as follows:

1.       This Order may be cited as the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) Act, 1961 (Increase of Judicial Remuneration) Order, 2001.

2.       The annual sums payable by way of remuneration to the several judges of the Supreme Court, the High Court, the Circuit Court and the District Court shall be the following -

To the Chief Justice:

£120,293, with effect from 25th day of September, 2000.

£132,955, with effect from 1st day of March, 2001.

To the President of the High Court:

£108,321, with effect from 25th day of September, 2000.

£119,722, with effect from 1st day of March, 2001.

To each ordinary Judge of the Supreme Court:

£104,254, with effect from 25th day of September, 2000.

£115,227, with effect from 1st day of March, 2001.

To the President of the Circuit Court:

£96,002, with effect from 25th day of September, 2000.

£106,107, with effect from 1st day of March, 2001.

To each ordinary Judge of the High Court:

£96,002, with effect from 25th day of September, 2000.

£106,107, with effect from 1st day of March, 2001.

To the President of the District Court:

£75,548, with effect from 25th day of September, 2000.

£83,500, with effect from 1st day of March, 2001.

To each ordinary Judge of the Circuit Court:

£75,548, with effect from 25th day of September, 2000.

£83,500, with effect from 1st day of March, 2001.

To each ordinary Judge of the District Court:

£62,762, with effect from 25th day of September, 2000.

£69,368, with effect from 1st day of March, 2001.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation)

This Order applies increases with effect from 25 September 2000 and 1 March 2001 to the salaries of members of the Judiciary arising from the recommendations in Report No. 38 of the Review Body on Higher Remuneration in the Public Service, dated 25 September 2000. The increase with effect from 1 March 2001 takes account of a general pay increase on 1 October 2000 under the terms of the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness.
