MINERAL DEVELOPMENT ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1969 - SECT 53 

Power of educational institutions to facilitate the working of mines and minerals.

53.(1) The trustees or governing body of any educational institution shall
have power to do anything necessary or expedient for facilitating the working
of mines and minerals in any land which is the property of that institution,
if apart from the provisions of this section they would not have power to do
so.

(2) Without prejudice to section 54, where an educational institution receives
or has received any grant or other sum from the Ministry of Education in
connection with any land, the power conferred by subsection (1) shall not be
exercised in relation to that land otherwise than with the written consent of
that Ministry.
